Health And Safety Policy
Deep Cleaning Battersea Health and Safety Policy
Deep Cleaning Battersea is committed to providing professional cleaning services while protecting the health, safety and welfare of our employees, clients, visitors and members of the public. This policy sets out our approach to managing health and safety in all deep cleaning operations, including domestic, commercial and end of tenancy cleans.
We recognise our legal and moral responsibilities to identify hazards, assess risks and implement effective controls in all areas where our teams work. Health and safety considerations form an integral part of our planning, decision making and day to day management.
Policy Aims and Objectives
The aims of this Health and Safety Policy are to prevent injury and ill health arising from our work activities, to maintain safe and healthy working conditions, and to continuously improve our safety performance. We will ensure that health and safety is given equal priority with quality, cost and service.
Our key objectives are to provide and maintain safe systems of work, to supply suitable equipment and materials, to give information, instruction, training and supervision, and to consult with employees on matters affecting their health and safety. We will regularly review our procedures to reflect changes in legislation, industry best practice and the nature of our services.
Management Responsibilities
Senior management has overall responsibility for implementing this policy and ensuring that adequate resources are made available. This includes providing competent persons to advise on health and safety, making sure suitable risk assessments are carried out, and ensuring that appropriate control measures are introduced and maintained.
Supervisors and team leaders are responsible for day to day implementation of safe working practices. They must ensure that staff follow instructions, use equipment correctly, wear the required personal protective equipment and report any hazards, incidents or near misses immediately.
Employee Responsibilities
All employees have a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions or omissions. They must cooperate fully with the company to enable us to meet our legal obligations and policy objectives.
Employees must follow all safe systems of work, attend required health and safety training, use equipment and materials in accordance with instructions, and wear the personal protective equipment provided. Any unsafe conditions, defects, accidents or near misses must be reported to a supervisor without delay.
Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work
Before undertaking cleaning work, we will assess the potential risks associated with the specific environment and tasks. This includes considering access, trip hazards, working at height, electrical safety, manual handling, use of cleaning chemicals, and any specific needs of the property or client.
Findings from risk assessments are used to develop safe systems of work that are communicated to each member of the cleaning team. Staff are required to follow these systems at all times and not to improvise or undertake tasks for which they have not been trained or authorised.
Control of Substances Hazardous to Health
Cleaning products and chemicals may present health risks if not managed carefully. We comply with all relevant requirements for the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health. This includes obtaining information on the hazards of each substance, completing assessments, and ensuring that products are used, stored and disposed of safely.
Where possible, we select cleaning agents with lower risk profiles while maintaining high cleaning standards. Staff receive training on the safe dilution, application and mixing of chemicals, on the importance of ventilation, and on the use of appropriate personal protective equipment.
Personal Protective Equipment
Deep Cleaning Battersea provides suitable and appropriate personal protective equipment for all cleaning tasks. This may include gloves, masks, eye protection, protective footwear and other items where required by risk assessment.
Employees must use PPE as instructed, keep it in good condition and report any loss or defect. PPE is provided as a complementary measure and does not replace the need for safe systems of work or other controls.
Manual Handling and Use of Equipment
Many cleaning tasks involve lifting, carrying and moving equipment or materials. We aim to minimise manual handling risks by using mechanical aids where practicable, planning work to reduce unnecessary handling, and ensuring loads are kept to a manageable size and weight.
Staff are trained in safe lifting techniques and the correct use of vacuum cleaners, steam machines, floor equipment, ladders and other tools used in deep cleaning. All equipment is maintained in a safe condition and removed from service if any fault or damage is identified.
Working in Client Premises
Our teams work in a variety of properties and environments. We will respect each location and carry out our work in a way that minimises disruption and risk. This includes maintaining good housekeeping, clearly identifying wet floors or other temporary hazards, and securing equipment when not in use.
We take care to protect clients, residents, employees of other businesses and visitors from risk arising from our work. Where necessary, we will agree specific safety arrangements with clients, such as restricted access areas or particular site rules.
Incident Reporting and Emergency Procedures
All accidents, incidents and near misses must be reported as soon as possible. This enables us to investigate what happened, take corrective action and prevent recurrence. We keep appropriate records of incidents and review them regularly to identify trends and areas for improvement.
Emergency procedures, including fire safety, first aid and evacuation, are communicated to staff working at client premises. Employees must familiarise themselves with the specific arrangements at each site and follow instructions in the event of an emergency.
Training, Consultation and Continuous Improvement
Health and safety training is provided on induction and refreshed at appropriate intervals. Additional training is given when new equipment, substances or procedures are introduced. We will ensure that all staff understand their responsibilities and feel confident to carry out their tasks safely.
We encourage open communication and consultation on health and safety issues. Employees are invited to raise concerns, suggest improvements and participate in developing safer ways of working. Management will review this policy regularly and update it as necessary to reflect changes in our operations and in relevant legislation.
Policy Review
This Health and Safety Policy is reviewed at regular intervals and whenever significant changes occur in our services, locations or working practices. The current version is communicated to all employees and is available to clients on request. By working together and maintaining high standards, Deep Cleaning Battersea aims to deliver exceptional cleaning services in a safe and responsible manner.
